The iheart project is an exploration of symbols, a love affair with representation. iheart inverts the iconic i[heart]ny pop design, where the heart symbol is inverted to text, resolving the project’s focus onto a canon of symbols, old and new, that permeate contemporary culture.
The most powerful symbols are ideograms that suggest or generate an aspect of life which is intensely singular yet eludes attempts by the intellect to fix or establish a single meaning. These symbols channel threads in the history, emotions and behaviors of human existence and beliefs.
A symbol’s continued power depends upon a living contextualization and flux of meaning across time and filtered through culture.
iheart’s production architectures are designed to illuminate the concept of living symbols through a merger of installation, sculpture, painting, performance, film, and new media. All aspects of the iheart project play with the tension between high art and pop, public and private space, universal icon and brand.
Like love, iheart knows no boundaries. text is picture, picture is text; the path is the destination.
iheart symbol.
